Voicing his skepticism over Federal promises of expedited action, Sen. Wiens told reporters Saturday, "It's a first step, but it's a very, very small first step."

Statements by Senator Tom Wiens to the press in Leadville, Colorado, Saturday, February 16, 2008:

"It's been the most frustrating experience you could possibly imagine."

"We've heard things from the federal government and the state government before. 'Yeah, we're going to help. We're going to do something.' Then they don't do it."

"This is going to change this time because we're going to stay on it, and stay on it until they do their job."

"I don't think the federal government has ever seen local elected officials and a little mining town like Leadville before take them on like we're taking them on. And we're not going to stop until they fix the whole thing."
